I've seen this reposted on multiple sites. This is a terrible method and never works.

This has a significant chance of failure.
Given the nature and particularly the cost of the Item, the return Is almost certain to be checked.

1. Go to DHgate
2. Buy a Goophone 12 Pro Max (Pics from the sale thread will be faked to avoid legal issues - Check customer reviews) (Example: Sale Thread - Customer Review)
3. Buy a real iPhone 12 Pro Max from anywhere but not from Apple! (Amazon is fine)
4. When you receive the real iPhone - take it out of the box and place the Goophone into it instead
5. Return the Goophone to the store where you bought the iPhone
6. Enjoy your brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max!
High chance of failure. Can easily verify its not a real iphone by just turning it on or going to settings to check serial #.

What kind of BS is this? lol you have a better chance of success by trading with someone on Ebay 😂

😂😭 Some 1950s shit. If anyone's got proof of this working in 2020 I'd be surprised.

+1 oldest trick in the book.
having said that
its easier and more chance of success if you do this to an online retailer, large one, like amazon.
however personally wouldnt risk swapping any apple products for fakes as they have a high fraud rate and companies check apple stuff thoroughly.
can still work with other electronics well. From personal experience in 2020. Just has to be more niche.
