I don't know the exact type you're after (capacity, model number etc).

SSDs are sold all over the net, checkout the one you wish to SE.

No problem, all good.

Any company can be SEd and given the nature of the Item (SSD), you have many methods available. Select the company and we'll work from there.

im getting a crucial mx500 2tb but 1tb will do, however youre right many do sell it. Ebay, walmart, newegg, best buy, adorama, staples, B&H, serversupply, and office depot. I wanted to save walmart for another item but i imagine these other will work too, just how to find out which of these companies TOS are the easiest to exploit.

The 1TB weighs 100 grams and given Its (compact) size, the weight & dimensions suit the missing Item and boxing method.

To avoid an Investigation opened, the missing Item can be either a warehouse or manufacturer error. If you'll opt to box them, when you select the company, see who's responsible for loss of goods during transit. Of course, you can also consider using the wrong Item received, sealed box and obviously the DNA. You have an array of methods to choose from.

To me, its seems like the missing item method has a higher success rate especially if i buy the SATA cable from them with the same order and claim i only received the cable. Boxing sounds more worth it and greater accomplishment if done successfully but I'm not sure how hard it is to pull off even if company SOP's say they are liable for me returning it in transit and seems like you're leaving it up to them to decide if the box has been "tampered with", i thought maybe take a picture before you send back but that might suspicious. Wrong item method seems hard to figure out which item to get because it might be the most challenging to understand their shipping department layout. im not sure how the SSD is package in either a non-transparent or clear case so sealed box i think that would be risky and DNA might work but higher chances of investigation, however with all this said i don't know shit because i am new to refunding and this is all my own personal speculation.

EDIT: so the two places i am looking at SE'n do not have the SATA cable which i was going to replace the factory one anyways during the upgrade. I don't see anything else i really need or want to pay for so if someone uses the missing item method, would it be suspicious to return the cheap purchased item a little bit after you get your replacement, or too suspicious? Granted youre still within your return period time frame.

EDIT 2: B&H vs Staples. which is easier for SE with a missing item?

Both are equal.

If It were (for example) Argos, they have CCTV cameras In place, therefore they're difficult to deal with when using the missing Item method.

You can perform a "practice run", by ordering a very cheap Item (only a dollar or so) and claim the missing Item.

If It succeeds without the company referencing CCTV footage, then you're good to go with the real SE.
