The wrong Item received, Is on the assumption that the store person picked, packed and dispatched an Incorrect Item. That Is, a picking error against the order.

In answer to your question, you send back the wrong Item In It's original packaging/box.

You don't touch the GPU at all. The objective Is to claim that you've received a wrong Item In Its entirety. That Is, the storeperson picked and dispatched another Item, Instead of the one you've ordered.

When they request the return of the batteries, you send It exactly as It was received.

If you’re Seinf a GPU and using batteries.

Receive the GPU. Carefully unpackage it. And place the batteries in. (Only if it’s similar size and weighs very similar. ) then send back.

This Is an error by the manufacturer.

In terms of a picking error by the company's storeperson, send the batteries In their original form, which Is what my previous posts relate to.

If It's the "Amazon" box/package, you certainly do.

There's ambiguity In the statement below. I took It as placing the batteries In the "GPU" box.
