Example. Something like an Xbox one s.

Buy a broken second hand one on eBay for like £30-40. Buy a brand new one off amazon. Return it but instead of returning the new Xbox. Put the old one in.

Some people have. It is a little risky, especially with tech. Surely the companies have the serial numbers somewhere. Will they check? I can't confirm, I'd imagine it depends on the price of the item. It clearly happens though, take a look:

If you're thinking Amazon, I can see it going through no problem tbh.

Generally with our forum, I figured this went without saying. However, recent discussion has led me to believe otherwise. People are encouraged to read and follow our rules, especially those regarding illegal content. You have been warned - @Oni

It can succeed, but as with every SE, there's no guarantee that It will.

The method has a 65-75% success rate based on various factors- claims workload, company protocol compliance, representative awareness and a few more. Generally speaking, do note that you only have one shot at getting your method right, hence be sure to apply It by leaving nothing to chance.

A company on the scale of Amazon, Is by no means naive with their claims management strategies. When a method of this nature works, It's not due to a loophole with their handling procedure, but rather not having the manpower nor the resources to address It accordingly at the time.

I’ve done this twice before wit two Xbox’s ones. But one was new one was a year old nothing wrong with it. Just wanted a newer Xbox and done that two times. This time it’s the same just ones faulty.

Is It functional In any capacity?

If not, then they cannot check the Console ID, which can only be viewed In the system settings/console Info section of a "working" unit. The serial number Is located there as well, but Is also found on the console Itself. If they don't bother checking and/or request the serial number, then you'll be fine.

People have been doing that almost all the time. Instead of returning the old xbox one s without telling the company you purchased the new xbox one from. Why not just tell them you were shipped a used xbox one or a non working one? They will most likely believe you even more since you're willing to give the item back. Companies are aware of SErs, your job is to make them believe you aren't one.

Is a broken console not going to look heavily used?

It depends how the OP defines "broken"- not functional, or physically damaged?

If It's the latter, to what extent?

I haven't but I'm planning to try it out. I'd say doing it around this time of year is optimal since people will be shopping during the Holidays (Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Christmas, New Years, Cyber Monday), so there is bound to be high mixups with items of various prices and nature.
Detach from your emotions & see the whole picture.
