Ironically, i have been scammed on eBay, thoughts? #1
So i sold a bottle of perfume on eBay, i even sent the product free of charge via 1st Class Signed For Royal Mail, paying from my own pocket. I then get a message the same day with the buyer stating that the bottle wasn't full. I know it was full as it was brand new but the plastic wrapping was removed by myself prior to sending the item as i had to look up some serial numbers previously. I then told the buyer that this is tampering with goods and tried to get them to drop the situation by saying they'll need a crime reference number. Buyer wasn't prepared to do this and instead opened up a return and left me a negative feedback (I had 100% feedback before this)

The item sold for like £130 so it's not cheap but it's not that much in the grand scheme of things. I'm more worried and pissed off regarding the feedback. I offered the buyer a partial refund of £20, they said they'll discuss a partial refund with me but i have heard nothing from them.

Ripping off a big tax avoiding company is completely different to ripping off a single person. It probably sounds like i'm contradicting myself because i'm a part of this particular part of this website lol, but it is what it is.

Knowing what eBay are like it'll probably go the way of the buyer and then i am stuck with that bullshit negative feedback.

The item hadn't leaked or anything, so i know they're lying.

What a situation, i'd probably laugh it off if i hadn't received the negative feedback and had my PayPal minus £130.

What are your thoughts?

Basically, you've been SEd.

The following could mean anything, ranging from 10% to 80% missing.
Quote:with the buyer stating that the bottle wasn't full

Ask the buyer exactly what portion he claims was empty. If It's significant enough to register a weight on consignment, Royal Mail will have a record of what you've sent.

Very true. The seller hasn't responded for two days now though. I have a request for them to return the item and i have until the 10th to decide what to do if the buyer doesn't reply. I also have my old address on the returns address so i'd need to contact eBay to see if they would change it on the return listing.

You can contact eBay and they will remove negative feedback if you explain how unfair it is. I've done it several times.

The seller's failure to respond, Is an admission of guilt. If he/she has nothing to hide, he/she will have everything to show- that Is, "reply" to your request.

This works In your favor. Contact eBay and tell them that the seller In not complying.

"We can not take any action on a case when it is within the 'seller make it right period' which is the first 8 days of a case being opened; in relation to the feedback i'd advise responding to it as we also can not remove a feedback while a case is open - this is a inconvenience I am aware so that's why id advise responding so your side of the story is there too."

This is what was said on eBay live chat.

Ahh the case is open.

My bad.

As soon as the case is closed, you can tell them to remove it and they'll remove it. It's never failed for me.

Just act REALLY friendly when it comes to the case and when the person reviewing the feedback sees this, they'll remove it.

Damn you got SE'd. I was in a similar position with an electronic I bought. It was fully functional and brand new. I even tested it out myself and recorded it before I shipped it out because I didn't want any sketchy business. eBay sided with them and didn't even care about my proof. I ended up giving him a partial refund to "fix" the product. I didn't wanna pay for return shipment and doing an auction all over again. Work with the ass and hope he changes the feedback, sorry man that's all you can do.

Not sure how shipping insurance works over there, but I always select to pay the extra $2-4 for shipping insurance on everything I sell on ebay. If the buyer tries to use a bs excuse to SE (or even a legitimate issue) you just file a claim under insurance stating the item must have messed up in transit. For your current situation, it would work perfect. The perfume was full when it was shipped so it must have leaked out during shipping. Usually you get a refund and the buyer has to ship the item back to you (if possible) in order for them to receive their refund.

Just a tip, if you're selling something as new, don't take any of the packaging apart. Even if it's just a strip of plastic/tape, leave it on there or invest in a heat gun and start practicing. It only helps your case because you can prove it was untouched when you had possession, so the fault is turned to the buyer / shipping service.
