As far as I know, the only thing people are concerned about is Apple blacklisting the IMEI. Even that, I'm fairly certain that only service providers/carriers actually blacklist by IMEI but some people do claim Apple does it.
I've never heard of them remotely bricking phones before for any reason.

so its a problem with all phones then? do you know if there is a way to get past it?
You are able to jailbreak and iPhone and change the IMEI that way.
Is jailbreak for ios 12 out?

Apparently it is out, though I haven't personally tried it up to now. Do your research on Google before attempting anything.
If things go wrong, you can buy a new iPhone motherboard online and replace it, effectively removing links to the past "device".
I am on android so no jaikbreaking, i was just curious.
