I would think the company would question as to why the box was wet and be kind of suspicious

Wrong Item received.
Find something (obviously a lot cheaper) that they stock of equal weight, and send that. The only loss to you, Is the minimal cost of the replacement Item. That's If you decide to purchase It.

Does wrong item received have a high sucess rate? As I wouldnt mind spending that minimal cost of the replacement item.

It does but It also depends on the Item, namely It's value.
For Instance, If It's a laptop worth In the thousands, the SE Is destined to fail. Those valued < 500$ will more than likely succeed. Given the magnitude of return/refund claims each day, a lot of companies don't have the manpower to address/check each one, hence class It as a write-off and close the claim there and then by complying with the account holder's request.
Do remember that an SE Is never guaranteed to work. We can only go by the likely hood of a successful outcome based on It's merits.
