I found this article hella crazy and especially being counted as 15 years. This is shocking to hear.

A 46-year-old Mexico man John Kelsey Gammell was sentenced by Department of Justice’s Criminal Division for launching the DDoS attack against websites of his prior employers, business competitors, and public services.

Gammel launched DDoS attacks by running tools on his own computers, as well as opted DDoS-for-hire subscriptions form a number of companies including VDoS, CStress, Inboot, Booter[.]xyz and IPStresser.

I've come across reports of murderers who've served less time.

You do the crime, you do the time but In my views, 15 years for acts of this nature Is excessive.

15 years for a DDoS attack is way too much for something that harmless.
It is understandable that it is a dick move to do that - but a financial penalty would fit this case better.
This persons live is ruined.

Whilst I certainly agree that the sentence Is excessive, In terms of harmless, It does depend on the nature the organization subjected to the attack.

Downtime due to a DDoS attack can cause significant financial loss, and/or a negative Impact on their status on the stock market.
