Amazon SE gone wrong? #1
So I ordered an electronic device from them. Costs about $250. It turns out the description was different from what I actually received. So instead of using the classic excuses like package not received, etc. I tried to use this mistake to my advantage. After a few attempts via chat and email, they keep answering that I need to send the item back and "the system won't allow them to give a refund before it's returned". Sounds like total BS.

Any way around this? This is Amazon UK fyi

That's how it works. You send the item back and they give you your money back.
Just like how they wont send you an item before you give them money.

Of course It will. It depends how It's processed. When they do their stock take and there's variances (which there will be), do they leave It on their system Indefinitely?

If they class the Item as a write-off, a refund can be Issued without the receipt of goods. For simplicity In this case, use the box method.

via the box method, I'd presume you mean put books or something in a box and sending it up so the system sees that you're returning the item back?

Correct, but you don't put anything that's "physically" received.

Given packages are weighed during transit (on consignment), using dry Ice that matches the weight of the Item Is a well-known method.

Just to clarify the box method because I've never used this one before....
So you put bricks or whatever that matches the item weight. So what happens when Amazon actually opens the box and sees it's not the item?

Hence my above comment:

Using dry Ice (that vaporizes during transit) does the job well. Given packages are weighed on consignment, be sure to match the weight accordingly.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds like a brilliant idea but isn't dry ice expensive?

You're welcome.

The cost depends on your locality and where It's purchased. If you do the math between the cost of the Item and the negative deduction with the dry Ice, you'll still significantly benefit In profit.
