Allow me to provide a simplistic (general) breakdown off the top of my head.

Scamming: The Intention to defraud the person/entity no matter what method Is used.
Social Engineering: The Intention to manipulate the person on the other end Into doing something they're not supposed to do.

The operative words have been emphasized differentiating the two.

An example of scamming Is falsifying your social security documents, by saying you're not working (when In fact you are), thereby receiving unemployment benefits at the same time.

You're not manipulating (social engineering) anyone, but more so submitting false documents to claim benefits that are not rightfully yours.

I think the main difference is that one targets sellers while the other targets buyers.

RE: Scamming and SE #16
SE is the art of manipulating other people. The way you use it might make it a scam or not. For example, if you using it to obtain information that the other person is not allowed to share, that might be or might not be fraudulent, but if you use it to obtain free stuff that is a fraud.
If you are reffering to what we do, that is a fraud of course and in the essence is the same thing as a scam. But I like to think of SE as an elegant way of scamming.

BTW, a false proof of purchase is a false document as well. So that analogy is not precise.

Generally with our forum, I figured this went without saying. However, recent discussion has led me to believe otherwise. People are encouraged to read and follow our rules, especially those regarding illegal content. You have been warned - @Oni

I certainly agree with this.

The difference with (and what defines) SEing, Is the "method" to achieve the result, whereby the "method" Is manipulating the human firewall. The result can be whatever It Is at the time- It's Immaterial. Whereas scamming has the sole Intention of a fraudulent objective.

Who cares about the difference? Has anyone here ever pulled one?
