If the shadow was lighter than the text, that'd work. otherwise it'd likely make it even more unreadable.

I disagree. A black shadow actually makes it stick out more.

Hmm. Just checked it out, and yeah, it does make it stand out a lot more.

It certainly looks a lot better.

Previous to this, It was somewhat difficult to set apart the username from the background.
