the science of humor #1
This isn't an exploitation of human nature but rather a breakdown of one of our most vulnerable social norms; humor.

Am I a sexist, racist hater for laughing?
------------------------------------------------------------
No. A good joke nearly always strikes someone's nerve(the vegans on tumblr, for example) proving that good jokes strike close to home.
And yeah, if the punchline to a joke about a quadriplegic kid with down syndrome is cancer then you're just a sick fuck. There's a fine line between comedian and sicko and that's what comedians are defined by.

The world's funniest joke, not really that funny..
------------------------------------------------------------

  • Two hunters are in a forest. As one shoots, his gun misfires
and blows his arm off. The other one, panicking, calls 911.
"Hello," he shouts into the receiver "My friend just died!
What should I do??" "Calm down," says the operator "first,
are you sure he's dead?" "one second," the guy says. He puts
the phone and the operator hears a shot. "Okay, what's next?"
    The guy asks.
According to a worldwide study conducted by a German scientist who's name I can't remember, that's the world's funniest joke among thousands submitted. To us, it's not very funny. This only enforces my point about relateable jokes (apologies to any avid hunters who find this hilarious).

A joke we can relate to
------------------------------------------------------------

  • An SQL statement walks into
a bar, sees two tables and
asks, "mind if I join you?"
Yeah, it's still pretty lame but it probably got a chuckle out of you guys.

Dark humor, why is it funny?
------------------------------------------------------------
The thing about dark humor is, it's so fucked up it's laughable.
  • what do you call a girl with one arm and one leg?
    Ilean
Don't lie, you laughed. Why? Because, even if you're a total d!ck, you still felt bad for the amputee.

TL; DR
------------------------------------------------------------
Humor in itself is too complex to explain in one thread. There's more to it than I put down here and I might expand on it later. I'm getting a sh!tload of coursework now so I'm a bit less active but I'll try to make more guides.
It's often the outcasts, the iconoclasts ... those who have the least to lose because they
don't have much in the first place, who feel the new currents and ride them the farthest.

I find that puns evoke a variety of feelings, whether it is happiness or a sort of "oh my god did he really do that" feeling.

Why don't you make a guide on how humor can be used for human exploitation?

This.
Humor has a lot to do with building a rapport, so a guide teaching others how they can build a fast rapport with humor would be pretty cool. I would definitely read a thread about that!

On another note for the OP, your thread was an interesting read. I didn't gain anything from it, but it was still a fun read.
