Where would native code actually improve a media-heavy web application? 3 hours ago

With modern browser APIs and cloud services, I wouldn't reach for native code without profiling first.
But image transformations, video processing, memory-heavy operations and specialized codecs can create situations where native libraries or WebAssembly make sense.
The important question is whether the bottleneck is CPU time, memory, network latency or the external service itself.
For those who have optimized media-heavy applications, what workload genuinely benefited from native code, and what turned out to be a premature optimization?
