Cracked screen for a phone #1
Hello,

My phone screen got cracked and isn't working anymore, I was thinking of opening up my phone and somehow making my battery swell so that I can file a warranty claim on it by saying that the battery pushed back the screen or some bs lol

Did anyone go through any similar experiences or have any tips/easier ways?

Thanks Xd Biggrin

Can a battery that's swelled actually push and damage the screen to the point of cracking It?

If not, dismiss the thought.

it can but it takes some time for the battery to swoll this much

If it's just the screen why not just go on ifixit and swap it yourself?

Yeah, it's quite plausible given that it's right behind the display

OLED screens are kinda expensive and I can't find a genuine one anywhere

Regardless of how much time It takes, If It can happen, then go for It.

I certainly agree, but Is the pressure of the swollen battery enough to actually "crack" the density of the screen?

Phone screens are pretty robust - some don't even crack when dropped on tiles/concrete.

True but I meant that the delicate OLED display behind the actual screen is what's actually cracked, not the glass itself.

Moreover, I am pulling this off with amazon as a return so I think they'll be more lenient on it compared to phone manufacturers

In that case, It's certainly possible.

I thought you're referring to the glass cracked per se.

At times, they contact the manufacturer to establish whether or not a given damage report Is possible.

I've personally experienced It on a few occasions.

Yeah that's what I was thinking of as well, The battery isn't very swollen so I was thinking of faking an incident where I tell them that I noticed that the screen was getting out of frame / the phone wasn't working anymore and so I took it to a repair store to replace the expanding battery but got informed that the screen was broken as well (Effectively making them think that I got a new battery put in place so they don't notice that it wasn't swollen)

But again this may open up a new can of worms with warranty where they'd react negatively about a third party tampering with the phone?

Depending on their terms, I think some companies do state their warranty will be voided if the product has been repaired or even opened by a third party.
