If Apple reps ask for your apple ID, how are you supposed to continue with the serial number method?

And how did you respond to that?

He asked for Apple ID, I said I didn't remember
He then asked for the associated email
I said I didn't have one associated
Then he said we can't continue without apple ID because something like a smoking phone is too serious

I told them that I don't have an email or apple id and they said we can't continue without it and I need to go instore to resolve my issue
