Hello,

I was planning on using the DNA method on a steam deck. The courier (GLS) called me yesterday when I wasn't home to deliver the parcel and I told them to leave the package in a hidden space in front of my house. I now got the package and will contact their support today to say I haven't received anything. Should I say I was home all day and no one ever rang the bell or is it unnecessary? Since I did not sign for anything everything should be alright, right?

How did you tell them to leave the package? Phone call? Delivery option on their website?
By doing that, you're basically lifting them from any responsibility since you're the one that asked for a non-signed delivery, if Steam contacts the courier and asks for infos they will relay this detail and the DNA won't work

Perfectly and very accurately said.

For future reference, do not provide delivery Instructions when using the DNA.

The deliveryman called me to ask me where he could put the package when he was delivering because no one was home. I did not specify anything on the website itself.

He could still claim you gave him those instructions, and face some harassment from him in case thing go bad, I wouldn't risk it

Isn't the outcome the same as when you fake sign and then claim DNA?

Beside that, is any case known were the Steam deck was locked through Valve? Is there a possibility of them being able to lock it? I was thinking that as soon as you're login in with your account, they might flag ist and/or disable internet access.

Could be, but in that case it's the courier's fault for handing it to someone else and/or not requiring you to sign it personally, in our case you told him it was fine to act this way and so the fault is on you

Definitely order it from a different account than the one you plan to use it with, they can't ban you for purchasing and using a device that you had no way to know it came from a SE

Not really. Pushing the 2 situations to the extreme:
1) you signed with a fake name. The delivery man comes back to your house, but you're under no obligation to answer him. Unless there are cameras all around, there's no proof it was you receiving the parcel and signing for it. It's your word against the delivery man's.
2) you told the delivery man to drop the parcel to a safe spot during a phone call. He may well have been recording that call or, at the very least, have proof of having called with you answering the phone. That could well be used against you.

Just tell them the box is clearly empty. After 3 days I got the refund. They didn’t want any pictures or anything
