I understand if I bought apple airpods from the apple store, they'd have my information, but if I bought my apple airpods from target, and then removed all target information from the packaging, how would anyone identify the original purchaser?

Maybe with serial number, I see that Amazon always keep a record of the serial numbers of Apple products, although I doubt Target would do the same but there are reasons to believe so.
