Hi.

I'm currently looking into my home insurance provider and the criteria they deem passable on a claim. I have accidental included and think this would be my best option but before I do, I'm wondering if there's another option for the TV and if anyone has tried this successfully in the UK? I can't imagine it's easy given the size, weight and most probably going to have to be signed for. Hence the insurance route but ideally I'd want to do that as a last resort.

In terms of the claim itself. I understand my insurer would want reciept of purchase, potencially photos of the damaged items and/or even to have them sent of to one of their repair facilities. The proof of purchase I think I can deal with maybe on receipt maker, PS or other. Regarding the photos and needing to send the items off, I could say the accident caused a fire perhaps so I had to discard them? I'm not 100% on the length of investigation insurers go too with large expensive items.

What other methods could be a potential?

In the UK insurance companies have become aware of the public making odd claims due to the current economic outlook. I'd proceed with caution and cover all bases.

They may assign a loss adjustor. They will verify everything including the receipt you send. I would strongly recommend proceeding with caution. They might not accept you saying it was disposed of and even if you do dispose of it they would expect you to have some form of proof. aka a collection request from ur council).

I would purchase it. Find the same TV damaged online. Do a claim. Have the damaged one ready.

Speaking from experience by the way. I have had loss adjustors assigned for things that hit like 1K when I have genuine had them stolen etc. They wanted as much proof (including messages to friends at the time lolol).

Wow ok. Thanks for the heads up and response. I don't think i'll take this route.

What does It exactly state with the Insurance cover?

Also, do you need to pay an excess fee for the Insurance claim?

It states:
Quote:We may ask you for more information to support your claim, such as:
y original receipts, invoices or valuations dated before the item was insured, and
y instruction booklets, photographs or details of where and when an item was purchased.
Do not get rid of a damaged item (unless it could cause harm) as it could help us settle your claim faster. If you do not
provide everything we need, it could mean we do not pay your claim or we reduce the amount you can claim for.

So I have no doubt that it would be covered. My excess is at £350 for such a claim, too. I'm re-thinking and don't think the claim would be a good route to take. It does state multiple times in the policy about loss adjustors and independant investigators, also.

I'm thinking at this point picking up a broken unit and replacing as faulty, might be the best option unless you can think of another method that has potencial?

Agreed.

There are too many variables that may lead to significant complications.

Does the faulty unit have any Identifiable details (serials, model numbers etc) that can potentially expose that It's not the one being claimed for?
