Hello All

In theory, if one was planning a trip to America, how could they cut costs by social engineering?

Anyway way to get cheaper hotels, airbnb, flights, rentals, food etc?

This would be a very interesting thread and I look forward to the replies.

Hotels are normally the easiest to hit, especially chains. A strong willed complaint of a serious nature will usually cause them to comp the room. E.g found used condom under the pillow. Free meals at hotels by complaining of food poisoning the next day. Or hit Ubereats deliveroo etc as you will have a new address to use at each place you stay.

Hitting Airbnb usually hurts the little guy so try to avoid this.

Flights will be the most challenging to SE to be honest, may be able to SE airline gift cards, use them to pay for the flights then refund them.

Other than this, some legitimate ways to travel for free include, house sitting, couch surfing, hitch hiking etc.

I haven't done it myself with an american airline, hence more investigation will be required on your part to determine the risks and processes. But simply put, buy an email delivered giftcard from an online store. Use it to book a flight, then claim the giftcard didn't work / had already been used. Stay persistent and a refund will be issued. If denied paypal will likely refund you. This method obviously depends on the airline not providing sufficient gift card usage tracking so the gift card retailer cannot tell when / who used the gift card.

Just refunded my hotel in a stay for 3 nights. pretty straight forward. dont be an idiot and insist and it should work.

What do you think about SE physical giftcards for hotels like Marriott?
Will it work?

These cards have ID numbers on them so I'm curious if customer service will block them after a refund.

generally the hotel was quite poor tbf so atleast some sort of compensation was needed.

geenral upsettance with the service given to us, poor breakfast etc. just use common sense really, if you are good at SE'ing you can do anything. You can for sure do it knowing the capabilities you possess.

It's not difficult to SE free accommodation.
