Replace barcodes 09-05-2022, 01:17 PM

I'm new here, so sorry if this common knowledge. Is there a name for this? Couldn't find it on socialengineering.net
- Buy two items that have similar packaging (because of CCTV), not necessarily from the same store. Let's say two GPUs
- Take the expensive item you bought, remove the barcodes
- Take the cheaper item and replace all barcodes on the packaging with the expensive one
- Claim that the wrong product was sent
- When they scan it, it's supposedly is the expensive item
- Get refund
This sounds smart to me as a rookie, is there a logical mistake in there? Would it be possible that an item could get the wrong product coding when it arrives, or is the product coding bulletproof procedure that will likely raise alarms?
