Please do.
Jbhifi is requesting a photo of the back of the apple box for the SN.. “We contacted Apple and they required us to send them the serial number of your watch. Could you please send us a photo of the serial number from your watch (it should be on back of the box)?”

Does this mean apple will lock the watch?

Guess they could, if they cared
But if they're asking you, maybe the don't have the sold SN on record so you could theoretically find any photo of a random apple watch online and send that

Yeah that is a possibility but also a risk as if they find out if bullshitting them. I heard mothered say before it is a slim chance they do actually blacklist the watch..

So if i find a watch on let’s say FB Marketplace with the exact same model i could use that to show them?

Worth a try I guess, you can always claim you took the photo of the wrong box as your partner also has one in the same color
Or risk it and see if apple doesn't really ban you (which I doubt anyway)

They cannot remotely lock the watch Itself.

Correct, they might be able to lock the apple-account-related functions though, couldn't they? Not a complete blacklist but still pretty useless then

Correct, they do have the capacity to do so.

I am not an expert and rather new so if someone more experienced can advise on this specific question please do so.

But I would heavily advise against providing a different serial number than the actual one you received. (I don't have any direct experience for this exact scenario but I will provide reasoning why).
Most companies when making a sale will record the serial number of the device. For example, when Amazon ships Apple products, e.g Airpods, the serial number for the airpods is included in the order information. Similarly, I don't doubt that the retailer you are trying to SE keeps some record of the SN of the item sent to you. It is not safe to assume the opposite and do what you said.
E.g they could keep some sort of a record like this, Order #2412451, Item Name/s: Apple Watch Item/s SN: 25012051050
So if you provide a different SN that has the potential to complicate things a lot in my opinion.

This may also be the case, but then why bother asking for the photo of the SN?

RE: Apple Watch EB #20
Yeah that's a good point.
It would be rather unusual for the retailer to ask for a photo of the SN if they already have it but as the user mentioned, the retailer are liasing with Apple so this may be something that Apple have requested for that is required to continue their investigation.
