SN method gpu's failed... Help. 04-21-2022, 01:38 PM

So long story short, I have been dealing with evga in regards to rma'ing a gpu, had a serial number, registered it, provided proof of purchase, cross ship rma approved. They wanted a payment of 2x the item value before shipping. So I told them the gpu caught fire and I disposed of it due to health and safety concerns.
They told me they can't warranty the item without having the item sent to them. And that the warranty didn't cover items catching on fire.
I thought I'd had it lol. Then this rep threw that in. Was I wrong in assuming I should do the dispose method? Can I still salvage it? Was I correct in doing a cross ship rma, or should I have done the standard and boxed them or something?
