It certainly Is, however If you're requesting a refund or replacement, the IMEI number may well be blacklisted hence render the phone useless.

Will a blacklisted IMEI basically 'brick' the iPhone, meaning that it can't even be powered on to connect to WiFi or play games? I know with Androids, you can root (jailbreak) the device and use apps to change your IMEI. If you can do the same with a jailbroken iPhone, you might be able to bypass the blacklist.

As for the actual SE, it is entirely possible and many people have done it before. Be creative and make sure you use a drop, as Apple will definitely bill you.

Generally speaking, the IMEI number Is added to a pool of blacklisted numbers and when you attempt to connect the phone with a given carrier, they will see that It's blacklisted and decline It.

After doing a few Google searches, it seems that you can change your IMEI through some methods after jailbreaking the device. This should allow you to connect the phone to a carrier.

It can be changed, however the TAC (Type Allocation Code) which Is the first 8 digits of the IMEI number, Identifies the model & manufacturer of the device.

This means, If you spoof/change the IMEI number It will not be dedicated to the device and upon activation with a given carrier, It may well be rejected. That said, It will work with carriers who neglect to check the device It belongs to. As a safeguard, leave the first 8 digits, and change the remaining numbers. This way, the IMEI number will show up to It's corresponding device.

You're welcome.

For Identifiable purposes of the device, just remember to leave the first 8 digits (Type Allocation Code) as Is.
