Activation Locked Apple Watch - NGwill - 09-11-2018

Hi everyone,

I recently found an Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular but it has an activation lock (ie. Locked to the owner's iCloud/Find My iPhone). It is essentially an expensive paperweight for me now. I was planning on swapping this watch with a brand new one from Bestbuy or WalMart, then returning the box with the activation locked apple watch inside. Does anyone else have suggestions on how to make use of this locked apple watch?

Thanks

There's a few iCloud unlocking services going around.

I recently had an Iphone 8+ I found at a nightclub unlocked so I could resell it.

unlocking and activation whitelisting are two entirely different beasts. In short, if it's activation locked, you're fucked. Apple enforced these locks by blacklisting the device from receiving TSS signatures (which are used both for firmware updates and to get a valid APTicket, which is what the device requires for use). If you're on that blacklist, Apple won't issue you valid TSS, and there's nothing you can do about that (short of getting access to their RSA private keychain and signing it yourself). If on the off chance you saved previous TSS blobs for the device, you can use a replay attack in conjunction with something to hardcode the nonce value (firmware dependent) and sign your own APTicket for that particular firmware, but I suspect that a common thief like the OP would not have gone through the trouble.

Oh shit, I just ordered one to SE I didn't realize it might be locked. It was a refurbished one would it still be locked?

Anything refurbished (assuming that it's not just some random claiming its refurbished) will be certified by Apple, and so no, it won't be locked.

Awesome thanks man! I'm getting it off wish so I'm thinking it was used and reset. Here's hoping the SE is a success.

Buying it anywhere other than https://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/iphone will result in purchasing something that is in fact, not refurbished, but rather just used.

Out of interest, Anyone know if Stores that get boxed then contact apple and have the watches blacklisted? Not going apple myself but curious.

There's a serial number etched into the watch so they'll be able to tell it was swapped if they look at that.
