Boxing 6lbs dry ice - zapzapzap - 09-09-2018

Ok, I am SE'ing a laptop that weighs about 5lbs - the cords etc. I'm just going to be honest here. I am nervous that the box will be spewing white smoke and cold as hell... Does anyone have any reassuring anecdotes or tips?

In terms of fog/smoke, when dry Ice Is on It's own only a very small amount Is visible, hence not enough to be noticed when packaged. Drop It In water and there's a huge difference.

I am boxing a laptop that via fedex that is not that far away. I know fedex drags its feet when it comes to delivery times only fulfilling what is paid for.

I am worried that there will be some left. I read that it evaporates 5 pounds per 24 hours when outside, but this is not the same... I am just nervous and wondering if it is just better to send an empty box.

I've never boxed before but I am curious to know what people would say about your question.

Goods are weighed on consignment, hence an empty box Is an automatic failure.

If you're so concerned, alternatively, use the DNA method.

I am doing a warranty so a DNA is not possible. I am thinking an oversized box with extra stuffing (paper) coupled with breaking it up might work... should work. Trucks are hot. I just need to calm down. The more I break it up, the faster it evaporates. So not too much but enough... Any thoughts?

5Lbs of "paper" will take some effort.

Moreover, when they receive the box and open It, how do you explain/justify the paper that's been randomly packed?
It's too obvious.

Smile I am always thinking within my SE. I was thinking that they want a 3 inches of padding around a laptop on alll sides so that is pretty huge. I could just put the chunks of dry ice in a bigger box with cut up bubble wrap. I will take a pic of my laptop wrapped up (one I am not really sending just the same size) and say I am paranoid about damage and voided warranty. Just picture document the whole thing.

I had forgotten how hot trucks were, and the evaporation time will increase exponentially when chunks are broken up. A bigger box allows some buffer for air. Like if I just dump it all in the box right outside the fed ex, it will take some time for the dry ice to make total fog out of all that air.

It's seasonal.

During the summer time, non-refrigerated trucks do get quite warm. In the winter, It's quite the opposite.

RE: Boxing 6lbs dry ice - zapzapzap - 09-09-2018

That much dry ice is going to have the volume of about a gallon milke jug, which I suppose is about par with a laptop +6 inches of padding (3 inches all around). I am wondering if I should try to make a pocket with my cut open bubble wrap or if I should just crush it and mix it in with the filler I have around the bubble wrap.

Any advice from anyone who has ever done this before? maybe tell me to chill out? haha.
