Pc died, Uni asking for report - Byakuya Kuchiki - 08-21-2018 Hi there, I purchased a pc back in 2012. Which I have used for uni/research, Unfortuantly due to the fan wiring was poor one of the wires came out and fried my PC. Sent it to vibox where I bought it from and they told me it was beyond economical repair. As the CPU, GPU, case, SSD and PSU was fried and would be better to get a new pc. However I opted for them to destroy the PC securely. This was done several months ago and now the university has just asked me for computer report in which I don't have since vibox phoned me regarding this and they don't post reports. What can I do? RE: Pc died, Uni asking for report - chesterbeatdeath - 08-21-2018 Tell them it's gone. Finished. Bye bye. Show em docs from the company saying they killed it. Then tell the school to fuck off it was used up anyway RE: Pc died, Uni asking for report - mothered - 08-21-2018 (08-21-2018, 02:07 PM)Byakuya Kuchiki Wrote: Sent it to vibox where I bought it from You've done the right thing on your part and If Vibox do not provide reports, that's not your problem, It's theirs. It's out of your hands so tell your school what you've mentioned here, and ask them to call and deal directly with Vibox. I've managed to get past that stage and now sent the application. So the university needs to fund my pc as it's them am technically working for as a PhD student. I sent the email conversations of me and vibox the only proof I had and they were like needs to be headed and signed. But I will let you know the outcome. Originally when it first happened they wanted me to put it on in front of them but health and safety comes first RE: Pc died, Uni asking for report - mothered - 08-21-2018 (08-21-2018, 04:53 PM)Byakuya Kuchiki Wrote:(08-21-2018, 04:25 PM)mothered Wrote:(08-21-2018, 02:07 PM)Byakuya Kuchiki Wrote: Sent it to vibox where I bought it from You can't give what you don't have- In this case the report. I'm at a loss as to why your school cannot make a simple phone call to Vibox, get the verification (verbal or otherwise) they require, and conclude the matter thereafter. That aside, It's good to read you're making progress. Please advise as developments come to hand. RE: Pc died, Uni asking for report - chesterbeatdeath - 08-21-2018 Sidenote: Try and invest in your own equipment next time. Fuck ANYONE having the right to take away your tool so they can recycle the parts for scrap metal and pay for the staff coffee budget for a few months or whatever the fuck those types do. Owning your work machine is just like a carpenter owning his tools. We just make stuff more people enjoy than the carpenter does

It was my own equipment. I spent 2 grand on that PC. Only reason the university is concerned is because I had top secret files on the pc and software which in total comes to over 10,000 pounds. It was my own PC. I had no need for it and I would prefer it to be recycled. I have no need for it, wasn't gonna keep a pointless thing, I would rather it being recycled to make new pc parts to be honest. It lasted over 7 years. Uni was just asking proof of destruction/tech report which I've never heard of in my life |
