Use S/Ns with care - 3495 - 07-19-2018

If I make use of another person's serial number, can I then get in trouble if they one day decide to use it to for instance repair their pc and realize that another person (me) had been using their SN?

Not really in trouble, but the other person might get ben dovered .
If the company realizes that the SN has been used by a different person, they might be lenient to send out the rma to the person.
But that's the responsibility of using SNs.

But the person whose SN got taken advantage of could, I imagine, easily proof that he was and still is the rightful owner by for instance showing proof of purchase or showing his pc with the SN attached to it, I think he pretty easily can convince the company in this way that his SN was used, without his consent, by another person.

What do you think?

in all honestly ill put it bluntly who cares they arent going to look for who used the s/n (as long as its not too expensive being over 1000) also nothing will happen to you as youll be long gone if you are really that paranoid use a re ship or when you se use a fake name as they cant prove anything

Well, I was actually intending to SE an Asus laptop worth around a little over 1000$ so ... that's not good. You can't use a fake name as well as choose to reship since you will have to show some ID at the pickup place, which you wouldn't be able to if you are named Bob Slipington or some shit.

asus is a big company so probably wont look into it as it will cost more to investigate than the item is worth if you use a reship use a real name show your id and get it?even if they do know your name (whch i doubt the reship will really keep) wont show your face or address so youre in the good?

@3495 the lesson here is this:
Don't get yourself into stuff you don't know about
Of course, there are consequences to using other people's sn
but guess what? There are consequences to SE'ing too.

the chances are so low im guessing its like the persons first se or something because the chances he uses the warranty is so low then for a company to actually follow through and look for you is even lower and them even catching you is worse than that because if he gets it to his house can use a fake name and if caught deny everything and if he uses a drop they wont know his name or address and theres so many fake id in the world also an extra factor is if they did use the s/n imagine how later down the line it would be realistically like would be months

Yeah, the chances are very slim. Doubt a company would track you for se'ing a product <200$ using its SN
If you're very paranoid, SE'ing might not not be the thing for you.

hes going for something worth 1000 if im honest he'll probably fail on the se attempt more than anything as much as se is an art these things online are pen and paper methods you just follow and thats it people here let paranoia hit them over logic like be real when was the last time you used a warranty (ive personally only used it 4 times for legit reasons) its also kinda beveling in the lie/story youre telling (deny everything and make it sound like you dont know tho tf the se person is irl if asked )
