Returning phone to Amazon - lotd2000 - 03-21-2018

Hello,

I successfully refunded a phone from Best Buy and it has a manufacturing defect that was not noticeable before receiving the refund. I had work done on the phone through an authorized repair shop, but the water resistance has been compromised and dealing with the shop is a headache. I don't want to deal with multiple reworks to get it perfect. The phone is no longer in the exact same condition as before. I can tell the minute difference with the adhesive that holds the screen in place.

Would I run into any issues if I ordered an identical phone from Amazon and returned this defective one in its place? I understand that each phone has the IMEI and s/n, and I'm wondering if Amazon even checks that.

I can think of two ways to do it. I'm actually looking to change the color too but I don't know if it's a good idea. Either by putting this phone in the new phone's box and claiming I received the wrong color or just sending the old phone in its original packaging and stating the same.

Do you guys think there would be any deep investigation into that at some point down the line? Any suggestions or input would be great.

Thank you.

Logic has It, they will.

They're not going to blindly accept the phone without authenticating It's contents.

Yeah, that is logical. My thoughts behind it all focus on stating that I received the wrong color, and that in essence, I was accidentally shipped the wrong phone. It has the factory plastic that is adhered to it so it looks brand new. I could just provide them that in the original box.

The only concern is whether they have a database that would list any stock that they have based on IMEI. I haven't been able to find any clear indication that they do. But again, that would make the most sense. The question of what they would do with a phone that is not in their inventory also arises. Would they investigate or would they just add it to their stock? Would it be sent back to Samsung?

I'd like to hear your thoughts on how they might operate.

They'd investigate for sure. Such a big company can't just add something to their stock.

If you didn't have noticeable work done it would have been easier to claim defective product and send it back, but as you say, it is apparent that the screen was (assuming) replaced.

If the phone is under warranty, and using the authorized shop doesn't violate said warranty, you may be able to have it replaced by the manufacturer easier, stating that the authorized shop was unable to repair the product satisfactorily to fix said defect.

Hi.

I am attempting to go through this route now. I called the company and informed them that the repair has left me with more problems than I initially had (other end is hearing echos constantly now as well when using speaker phone). I told them that the store refuses to exchange the product since it was ordered more than 14 days ago. They gave me a ticket and now they want me to contact executive support which I will do tomorrow morning.

I can't speak for the "exactness" of their Internal handing of stock, Inclusive of all procedures used on returned Items.

That said, when an Item Is shipped, It's scanned against It's credentials In this case being the serial and IMEI. I'd say It's safe to assume It's the same when receiving the Item. I've shipped a few defective cell phones (for legit purposes) to various carriers (and companies) and each and every one was cross-checked on receipt of goods.

I would go through with that, and particularly stress the point that it was a manufacturing defect that made you look into getting it repaired, not damage you caused.

I have seen in the past where manufacturers will just pre-judge cases as being user damage regardless of fact or not.

Describe the defect, its effects, etc.
They will probably ask why you went for repair rather than replacement, easiest explanation in these cases is just didn't want to bother with the hassle of shipping it in, but it's become more of a hassle with how you chose to go about it than you originally thought.

RE: Returning phone to Amazon - lotd2000 - 03-23-2018

Samsung has horrible support. They created a new work order and ordered a new screen assembly. Executive support insisted that I have one more repair on file before processing an exchange. The part should be there next week. I'm sure they won't be able to get it back to factory condition, but the fact that they would make someone go through such rigamarole is appalling.

Just say to Amazon you got sent the wrong item, and send that phone back, It's a method thats still being used today, but I don't know if it'll work sending the actual device back, usually you would send something equivilant to whatever you bought.
