Cape Town Without Water Soon - Oni - 02-07-2018

It's projected that in a couple of months Cape Town will be shutting off it's water supply and begin rationing it.

Quote:In 10 weeks engineers will turn off water for a million homes as this South African city reacts to a one-in-384-year drought. The rich are digging boreholes, more are panic-buying bottled water, and the army is on standby

Quote:The head of Cape Town’s disaster operations centre is drawing up a plan he hopes he never has to implement as this South African city on the frontline of climate change prepares to be the first in the world to turn off the water taps.

“We’ve identified four risks: water shortages, sanitation failures, disease outbreaks and anarchy due to competition for scarce resources,” says Greg Pillay. “We had to go back to the drawing board. We were prepared for disruption of supply, but not a no-water scenario. In my 40 years in emergency services, this is the biggest crisis.”

The plan – being drawn up with the emergency services, the military, epidemiologists and other health experts – is geared towards Day Zero, the apocalyptically named point when water in the six-dam reservoir system falls to 13.5% of capacity.

This Is quite serious. One of the most precious commodities Is at risk.

I never thought It'll come to the point of shutting water supplies to residential homes.

This is very sad, it really sucks that this is happening. For some reason I feel like they won't be able to restore the source of water.

This is seriously sad and scary. You don't realise how precious water is until you have to live with minimal access to it. Water really does = life.

I hope they recover well.

The world is over-populated. Water scarcity will only keep on increasing as population grows.

Here's the latest update. Quite disturbing actually.

Quote:Cape Town, a coastal paradise of 4 million on the southern tip of South Africa, is to become the first modern major city in the world to completely run dry.

Yasmin Dawood is working hard to stick to the limit of 13.2 gallons per day for individuals as this city inches toward possibly becoming the first in the world to run out of water.
The stay-at-home mom showers quickly once a day with her daughter, keeping buckets in the stall to catch excess water that she uses to flush toilets — when they absolutely have to be flushed.
