PM restrictions - phyrrus9 - 12-31-2017

It would be nice if we could restrict private messages in certain cases.

I get a lot of messages from users with either no (common) posts or less than 10, asking for stupid or irritating things. There are a lot of plugins (example) that allow admin to restrict by post count, which would be nice.

I'd like to take that a step further, and allow users of some groups (like the VIP groups) to set their own post (or reputation) restrictions for who can send them a private message on a per user basis. I realize there probably isn't a plugin for this, but I'm more than happy to modify the standard PM restrict plugin to function like this.

Hmm, interesting idea. And I can see the sense in it. Though, ofc admin/staff couldn't have this restriction.

We wouldn't need anything special in the plugin to prevent staff from using it, just tell staff to keep those limits set at 0/unrestricted

Quote:There are a lot of plugins (example) that allow admin to restrict by post count, which would be nice.

In some cases, post count doesn't define the member per se. During my stay on this board, I've received quite a few messages from members with < 10 posts, but very relevant to the Importance of the PM. In my views, either Ignore the PM (It only takes a few seconds to do so), or simply block the member In question.

That said, as an option on a  "per user basis" for upgraded members, I agree with the below.

Quote:allow users of some groups (like the VIP groups) to set their own post (or reputation) restrictions for who can send them a private message on a per user basis.

To what extent do people get that many unnecessary messages? Not sure I feel like it's worth it. I also agree with mothered about post count not defining a member. You'd likely have the same issues with 50 posts.

I get them quite frequently. I've even asked many members to stop sending them from me to no avail. A couple cases I put those users on my ignore list and they blew up spamming all over the forum trying to get my attention

In such cases, use the Report feature and staff will (If warranted) take action accordingly.

Jeez. O.o I'm sorry that you get bothered so much. Though, I assume that's a compliment to you coming across and knowledgeable and approachable, which are compliments in themselves.

If there were another 10 members with the same issue, I'd be inclined to change my opinion. Though, there might be a better way around this.

I honestly have no idea why I'm getting them, I assume others are too.

I've received many and no doubt there'll be more to follow.
