My shitty luck - S3xySmurf - 12-05-2017

So my short story begins a little over 2 years ago, this little insight into my life should help others stop being lazy and acting without thought.

I got ripped off big time and lost $2000, at this point during my life I was full of ideas and spunk trying to get a business up and running but the internet chewed me and shit me back out, I decided to look into other methods of a sustainable income and got my lazy ass a job, I love my current job and I enjoy the income.

I went looking through some of my old accounts and noticed I had a Bitcoin address as my signature, I decided to look that address up today and I've just spent the last 10+ hours going over all my old USBs, portable hard drive and sdcards looking for a .txt doc with the seed (I always backed up my shit) unfortunately as there was nothing in the wallet at the time and I was under financial difficulty at the time I had to sell my PC and use the money to move out so I blanked the HDD's and forgot to backup my wallet.

To this day my old wallet is lost in cyberspace and contains just over $4500, let this be a lesson to all back your shit up Confused

or suffer like I have done, I will not be posting the address as I would rather keep my anonymity.

Below is what I just did to my second screen when I realised I had just fucked up so badly.

I've always (and still do) reiterate the Importance of backing up data on multiple devices.

I have 3 external HDDs handling the same data. In the event one drive fails (which has happened a number of times), I have the others to fall back on. In terms of yourself, It's unfortunate you've learned the hard way, but take It as a positive- It could've been a lot worse.

I feel sorry for you my friend. I use google drive for backing up all my important data as there's no guarantee of having a pendrive or a HDD for a long period of time.
For short notes I use Google keep. It's pretty handy, secured, and safe.

Damn dude, this sucks man. At the time, I don't have much at all to backup as this is a student issued laptop and there is nothing for me to backup. The little amount of things that I have to backup is everything in my sticky notes, and my code, which isn't completely updated or released on my GitHub. I try my best to keep this stuff backed up, and I think I'm doing pretty well. I really hate that you lost your seed, that sucks so much. I hope in some kind of way that you find it. Good luck!

Good move.

Over a span of 10+ years, I've had both USB sticks and HDDs fail, whereby the device Itself was rendered unusable. In total I'd say around 4 HDDs and a couple of USB sticks. It's since become routine for Incremental backups.

I now backup over pendrives, sdcards & portable harddrive along side online clouds (encrypted just in case) I do hope there will be something that reminds me of the seed or I find it again although this is one of hell of a lesson to back your shit up.

I am old school with shit lone seeds and other reset info...
I trust no back up with those and hand write them in a note book, which then goes into a lock box and then my safe Smile

Well that's one of the things I did but by the looks of it's a different seed altogether Confused

if I'd have stopped being so daft and held onto all of my wallets I would have quite a bit of money right now.

Wow that sucks! I lost some bitcoin I bought in 2013... I had like 28 btc or around that. I feel your pain :'(
