The Uber Attack - ethics404 - 11-22-2017

A group of hackers hacked Uber's 57 million customers' and drivers' data more than a year ago (October 2016). It's chief security officer and a deputy made a $100,000 payment to the attackers to hide this information.

Uber says that the attack included names, email addresses and phone numbers. The attackers didn't manage to hack Social Security numbers, credit card information, trip location details or other data.

What data did they get then? Names?

RE: The Uber Attack - ethics404 - 11-22-2017

Yes. But I don't believe what Uber is actually saying.

This was a known breach already, now confirmed by the company

It's abnormal for a company to actually cave under demand. If it prevents the information from being leaked, I suppose it works.

In terms of the exact data that was compromised, they'll never know for sure.

It's pretty difficult to pinpoint precisely what was/wasn't breached for a company on that scale.

Hurder I misread that.

RE: The Uber Attack - Bish0pQ - 11-23-2017

@Oni not really anymore, in my opinion. Think about all the companies that lost a lot because of all malware and ransomware that is floating around. NotPetya even fucked a whole lot of companies by still deleting all data after the company paid. Companies can suffer from great loss when their data gets hacked / leaked.

RE: The Uber Attack - JxHq - 11-26-2017

They tried to keep this quiet
