Learning, keeping current, and situational awareness - dvn8ter - 11-04-2017
How do you stay current with everything that is happening generally with technology? And more specifically in cybersecurity.
Im a student working on a degree in cyber sec and I'm just not getting 'enough' have resorted to seeking to gain knowledge on my own while still maintaining my gpa. Here are some of the things I do, outside of my degree program, to expand my exposure.
Stumbleupon.com > Here you can channel surf the internet by topic. Hacking, social engineering, and computer security are the main topics I peruse. This is a great site and can be used to throw a random topic of interest at you. Serendipitous!
Podcasts > some of my current favorite include : DevelopSec, cybersecurity interviews, and down the security rabbit hole.
YouTube > lots of content here so ill keep is short for now: hak5's threatwire, internet storm center stormcast
I've been playing with the idea of getting involved with the local 'scene' at events and local group gatherings but have yet to take action
So, what do you do when you get the yearnin' for some learnin'? What are some resources that you have used in the past and currently?

I deal with cyber security on a daily basis, and have been for almost 2 decades.
My Information gathering Is based on both hands on experience (Identifying and exploiting systems), and being selective with my online navigation when acquiring Info. Just remember that "you" as the user, Is the search engine, hence your search results are only as good as the keywords you've entered.

Reminds me of one of my most commonly said phrases "life is like Google, you get what you search for"

Google contains a wealth of Information. You just need to know how to pinpoint It.
