North Korea Nuclear Tunnel Collapses, 200+ Dead - Oni - 11-01-2017 It's a shame that Un's actions have been of further detriment to his citizens. Hopefully this doesn't cause a "Chernobyl- or Fukushima-style disaster." ![]() Quote:The collapse happened at the Punggye-ri nuclear test site in the north-east of the country on October 10, according to Japan’s TV Asahi. As you said hopefully this won't be another Chernobyl incident, hopefully the radiation in the tunnels is deeper than we think otherwise it's most likely being released into the atmosphere as we speak. RE: North Korea Nuclear Tunnel Collapses, 200+ Dead - mothered - 11-01-2017 Back In the mid 80s, I remember the Chernobyl disaster quite well. Shocking to say the least. In this case, so many lives lost due to (as they say) construction failure that could've easily been avoided with proper workmanship. If I'm not mistaken, Chernobyl's loss of life was around 30-35. Shocking to say the least. I believe you are forgetting the amount of people who were exposed to the radiation throughout the cleanup a lot of those people have died because of the exposure to the radiation, I believe I read somewhere before they linked from 10,000 to 200,000 deaths to the Chernobyl incident but then again they are never "sure" and these figures are predicted. These figures were taken from 1990 to 2004. These figures were taken from 1990 to 2004. I was referring to the number of deaths as a result of the blast Itself, not the aftermath. Hence my recollection of "the mid 80s". Agree. This Is devastating, and one can only hope that long-term loss of life Is not on a grand scale (or any scale for that matter). RE: North Korea Nuclear Tunnel Collapses, 200+ Dead - Synthx - 11-01-2017 Well, for the fact that this could spark a new Chernobyl crisis I hate, but for the fact that it was one of North Korea's Nuclear Tunnels, I find that a good thing as they need to stop aiding to WWIII. RE: North Korea Nuclear Tunnel Collapses, 200+ Dead - Syniquity - 11-01-2017 People need to respect the north Koreans more, They have made it so much easier for us, The Japanese were so rude they made us drop nukes on them while North Korea is doing it for us <3 (joke)_don't be a an offended fuzzle. RE: North Korea Nuclear Tunnel Collapses, 200+ Dead - Llebacc - 11-01-2017 100 per collapse, plus an ongoing radioactive disaster...damn. How incompetent does the person managing the build of the tunnel have to be to get 100 people killed in one go? Surely the tunnel, if successfully built, wouldn't be safe to use if 100 people died in a single collapse. It would be near useless. And then the rescue party gets crushed as well...just wow. The event reminds me of early industrial revolution work in the US. Minimal safety, and things like mine and tunnel collapses commonly killed dozens. The country is producing and moving nuclear material but their infrastructure building is stuck in the 1800's. Sounds about right, with all we hear about the DPRK. |
