Firefox Becomes Faster than Ever (Nightly is the bomb right now) - insidious - 10-09-2017

Don't know if you guys know this, but recently the Mozilla team has been integrating parts of it's new 'server' browser engine (written in Rust) into Firefox. So far, the benefits are astounding. I'm using nightly right now, and apart from the nifty new animations n' shit, it's honestly the best browser i've used (+ OS and backed by Mozilla)

It's super fast now, rather than being sluggish like older versions. Firefox 57 is where it's at (I believe they might have already pushed it into Beta, but Nightly is the only one I'm sure of is 57)

If you try it, all you have to do is go into `about:config` in FF, and make sure 'servo' option is enabled.

Only downside is many of the regular FF extensions don't work, since FF is moving to web-extensions rather than their old framework.

During the weekend, I'll endeavor to benchmark major browsers and see how they compare with FF Nightly on my specs: Core I7 7700HQ, 32GB DDR4 2667 MHz, GTX 1070 8GB, 256GB SSD (OS drive), 2TB additional HDD.

@mothered Let me know how it went. I usually switch a lot between Chrome and Firefox depending on what I should do and I'd love to know which one is actually best to use and less RAM hungry.

Will do.

With FF and Google Chrome under normal operations, It's somewhat difficult to say which of the two Is resource hungry. I've experienced high memory usage with both, but the nature of tasks for each were different at the time. A benchmark based on the same grounds will certainly provide better accuracy.

@mothered Yeah, it certainly makes a big difference wheter you're browing YouTube or whether browsing sinister.li. I think the speed difference is rather small, since they're both very fast browsers, but resource hungry is important for a lot of users as well.

I personally have 16GB of RAM, which is plenty for browsing, but my parent's PC is still a 4GB one, running Windows 10, so you can imagine it can't take much, after the page file is full.

In terms of your browser alone, having 16GB of Ram will have very little Impact.

I have 6 VMs running simultaneously, along with 50+ tabs open In FF and I still have plenty of available Ram, so no Issue on my end.

I see your point with your parent's PC. 4GB Is nothing nowadays.

This thread was made roughly a year ago. Assuming the (once) Nightly is now the current. I believe 57 was labelled "Firefox Quantum" and it still trumps Chrome by a bit.
