Learning SQL Management studio - millionandbell - 09-11-2017 Some of you may remember, about a month or two ago i created a post asking for advice on learning SQL. I have more information regarding that. I wanted to create a new post since that one is getting old. SO to begin we are running SQL management studio 2008. We are also running windows server 2008 (if that matters). We use report builder also, but that's a whole different topic. I was assigned to do all the reporting. The financial people come to me asking me to run reports with such and such parameters. I've been surviving by stealing queries from the old I.T. guy. I've learned a good amount from doing this ,but i want to learn from the ground up somewhere. I thought about doing the 30 day trial at lynda.com and watching some videos. Since i work in a hospital environment i can't really show code examples because of HIPPA and such. RE: Learning SQL Management studio - Slacker - 09-11-2017 Why not take a blank chart or a patient's chart and create a template of the chart for us with false information and fake details. That one would give members here an idea of what they'd be working with maybe? RE: Learning SQL Management studio - mothered - 09-12-2017 Take the time to learn It properly via your own volition. You'll be dealing with a lot of queries (by being responsible for the SQL Infrastructure), and using a template from the IT guy Is not good practice. RE: Learning SQL Management studio - Asura - 09-12-2017 Well, this may not be what you're looking for but this may help you get an idea? My knowledge is limited in this subject so apologies if this is not the case. https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL32BC9C878BA72085 RE: Learning SQL Management studio - millionandbell - 09-14-2017 (09-12-2017, 07:23 AM)Asura Wrote: Well, this may not be what you're looking for but this may help you get an idea? Just kind of confused as to when i need to use the different joins. I just installed SQL management studio on my laptop and got a few databases running so i'm going to play around with it and post some queries on here to see how i can make them better and such. In MySQL, the SQL JOIN Clause (RIGHT JOIN, LEFT JOIN etc) can take a little time get used to but once you get proficient, It's extremely effective. As with all other queries etc, once you learn your way around, It becomes second-nature. RE: Learning SQL Management studio - millionandbell - 09-16-2017 Got all my reports caught up, i was battling with a bug that cause the first name and zip code to just repeat. Is this safe to do Code: select item.table1, different_item.table2
from table1, table2 |
