Being doxed - Nigler - 07-12-2017 Hi dear people, so someone got my IP Address and is blackmailing me with it. He first told me to pay 100 dollars in BTC but I told him I told him I dont have that money so he changed the price to 40. I am not going to pay him because I know he will ask more later so I told him I would get it in 5 days. The last day has come and I need help. What should I do? Please help me before I get swatted ![]() PS: I have his phones hotspot IP address and his email address. I also found a Linkedin profile. RE: Being doxed - Blink - 07-13-2017 Ignore him. He's either bluffing, or actually being stupid. RE: Being doxed - Nigler - 07-13-2017 (07-13-2017, 12:29 AM)Ender Wrote: Ignore him. He actually has my IP though. RE: Being doxed - Oni - 07-13-2017 Let your local law enforcement know that you've received threats/etcetera, even if it's just an email. Law enforcement tends to understand it is a risk nowadays. It will go in your favor if push comes to shove. Whatever you do, don't give him a dime. RE: Being doxed - mothered - 07-14-2017 (07-13-2017, 01:09 AM)Nigler Wrote: He actually has my IP though. It's Immaterial. In terms of doxing, he cannot do anything with your IP address, so don't worry about It. Your IP (via a WHOIS and the like), will show the details of your "ISP" and not anything personal to you. Unless he can SE your ISP, hence obtain your personal Information and/or credentials, your IP Is useless In fulfilling his needs. Unfortunately, some ISPs are still susceptible, I believe. RE: Being doxed - mothered - 07-15-2017 (07-14-2017, 05:17 PM)Oni Wrote: Unfortunately, some ISPs are still susceptible, I believe. Agree. Unfortunately some "employees" (who work for the ISP) are susceptible, or should I say, vulnerable. And the disturbing part Is, for authentication purposes, some ISPs only ask for the full name (family & given name) of the account holder and nothing else. With some clever SE'ing, the address, phone number and date of birth can easily be obtained. And If the SE Is performed late on a given Friday, whereby everyone Is tired from a full week's work (hence not as alert) and all they want to do Is end the call and go home, It's alarming just how much Info Is at the attackers disposal. ISP doxing does happen, but it's not very common, especially with the inexperienced. RE: Being doxed - mothered - 07-15-2017 (07-15-2017, 08:25 AM)Ender Wrote: Pretty much. If the research, preparation and pretext Is formulated and performed accordingly, the likely hood of a successful outcome Is more so than not. |
