Poetry - Inori - 07-10-2017

Is anyone else here into poetry? If so, what are your favorite styles and works?

Personally, I really like villanelles (both reading and writing) because the restricted syllable counts and rhyming schemes make it more difficult to produce and more rewarding, and there are tons of historic examples of really impactful and profound works (e.g. In Flanders Fields).

My favorite single poem is far and away Do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan Thomas (if nothing hits you right away, read it a few times and try picking it apart a little).

I used to be big into poetry, not so much now. I've actually read a few things by Dylan Thomas but I haven't had the pleasure of reading that one until now. I might look back and see if I can look at a few.

I loved poetry back In my younger days In school, but given It was decades ago, I've forgotten my favorites.

Poetry brings a sense of serenity- peace, calm and happiness.

Favorite poem is still The Raven, by Edgar Allen Poe. I also enjoyed the Cask of Amontillado.

I also like The Raven (and most of Poe's work), but I find that it's really over-analyzed which takes away from the fun of it.

Then don't over-analyze it. It's simply a good read.

I have some poetry books that I have read through, but I don't really care for it much anymore.

I try not to; I meant that you can't throw a rock without hitting an English student who's written an essay on it.
