[suggestion] Discord requirements - Blink - 06-23-2017

Recently, there's been a lot of leechers and annoying idiots in the Discord server.

So, we should require 10-20 posts before allowing users to speak on the Discord.

It prevents leaching, and forces all of our server's members to be a part of the forum before sending messages.

Mhm due to my limited period of time being a member, I can't really tell what's the most appropriate solution here.

I think it's a good idea, to have some limitations, just like other forums have limitations / requirements before you are able to use a shoutbox for example.

But if you require a certain number of posts, people perhaps start to "spam" the forums with "low quality posts" just to increase their posts to be able to talk in discord, which would make SL lose it's shine tbh.

So imo, if there will be a certain post count requirement to do a certain thing, make sure to monitor / punish spam posts aswell, to ensure the quality of SL, especially from new people like myself, lol.

This is the main issue with limitations like this, is this.
The thing is that many of these Discord members is they aren't even members.

It's hard to find a balance with these things.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think, there is some way to link the forums to the discord server. By requiring people to do so, I think you can atleast, keep the discord server clean of people who aren't members on the SL forums.

You need to revoke all invite links and the only allowed invite is one that you must get from the forum.
@Oni what do you think about this?

You can also give them time.. like 24-48 hours for linking the accounts, if they don't they will simply get kicked.

If they decide to rejoin, the same procedure again, no linking after 24-48 hours? Kick.

Linked? Then you get the "role" members or something like that on discord, and you get to stay x).

That'll require a custom bot to be up 24/7 for both the forum and Discord.

Either that, or more work for staff.

RE: [suggestion] Discord requirements - zenith - 06-23-2017

I feel like there is a small userbase who joins the discord first to see what's up (they get the link from a friend) and then they join SL. Since on SL you literally can only view like 3 posts before having to register

@: Zenith Isn't it usually the other way around? And even if you do join the discord server, you can't do much at all. In the end, if you are really interested, you have to sign up one or the other way.

@Ender I think, staff could handle that. It's not like there will be hundreds of people joining the discord server every day.  It might be a hassle at the start, but once it calms down, it should be fine imo.

There seems to be a few leechers each day. Usually 1-2, but sometimes more.

I could make the Discord bots easy, but I haven't done much with MyBB. (That, and Oni probably isn't gonna let me take over the Discord and have a bot account on the forum Tongue )
