RE: So I'm moving out.. - mothered - 04-29-2017

I've moved out a long time ago and In terms of privacy and freedom, It's the best thing I did.

Having your finances sorted Is first and foremost. Calculate "every" expense (even the plug to the kitchen sink), and formulate some management strategies on your living expenses from week to week. Look at It from a long-term perspective and If you can afford It, then you're good to go. That's "your" side of things sorted.

You then need to see whether your friends can commit and are true to their word. The last thing you need Is for both to change their minds and leave you In the lurch.

Well, congrats on moving 1st. 2nd I suggest you know exactly where everything is when you're packing it so it won't be chaos when your unpacking.

Best advice? Make sure you don't leave anything behind (i.e. stuff in fridge/cabinets/etc...) Also, plan ahead in case you fall out with your current friends.

Congrats on moving out, good luck with that.
But try your best to think ahead and plan for the worst. Like Oni said, you'll have to be prepared to find somewhere to go if you just-so-happened to fall out with your friends for some reason.
Try not to forget everything important and don't hesitate to go back home if you ever need to.

Are they the same gender?
If they are, try not to get raped.

Yeh you have very valid points. We are trying this as a 'trial run' for the summer, if all goes well we would plan to stay longer.

That won't be too much of a problem.

Cheers for the tip Oni, thought about it multiple times with the possibility of having a fallout but the chance is low as we're good outgoing friends along with being separated as the whole block is very big for us to have 'our space'. Definitely having my own key to my own room to feel more secure.

You need to look at this from a long-term standpoint, so It's a good move you're doing It on a trial basis.

All the very best with It all.

So first off, congrats! Welcome to the rest of your life Tongue

  1. Always have a back up plan. Friends come and go, but a lease contract is a lease contract.
  2. Plan your expenses extensively. Save room for emergency funds.
  3. Going off of the previous one, save money. Shit happens, don't get caught up shit creek without a paddle.
  4. The dollar store is your friend for snacks, candles, toiletries. Tableware will most likely be shit and give you lead poisoning. (I'm not kidding.)
  5. Feel out your neighbors so to speak. Are they kind? Know the people who surround you (I don't know if you actually meant you had the block to yourself)
  6. If you neglect to do your chores, make sure to create a schedule for yourself. I always have liked the idea of never leaving a room empty handed.

Best of luck,
DankMau5

I've been wanting to move out of my parent's house too lately, but I don't know of any reliable room mates that I could depend on to help pay for things with me and it wouldn't be the best thing for me at the moment. I hope this works out well for you though, and be sure you can really depend on the people you're with or have a backup plan because otherwise you may find yourself in a pretty shitty position.
