I've seen this, personally I think it's a bit overhyped.
It's cool and all, but you would probably get more hosts by IP scanning, also, it's easier to automate that way.
However, Shodan is still nice to play around with sometimes.

you can also team it up with
censys.io and zoomeye.org
you can get a very big picture of a website, connected companies and services.
