180sx SR20DET Build Help - JAX010800 - 02-17-2017

Hi all,

I know some of you guys may or may not be car guys but I need some advice, some tips and some knowledgeable people to help me choose wisely. My goal is to build a 180sx SR20DET built drift car and I'm unsure about the needed costs to build and upkeep the vehicle. If any Australian people are here and can help me decide whether SR20 is the best bang for my buck when it comes to a starter drift car. I have never drifted before and I want to have the SR20 putting out a reasonable amount of power so I'm able to grow into it and keep it for a while how it is once built. Another question which has me wondering. Is it better to buy a roller shell and build or go from a working vehicle and swap engines. If anyone can help me out and give me a price breakdown from everything that is required then I would greatly appreciate it. I have a sort of understanding on what I will need and have to spend, just want secondaary advice.

Kind Regards,
Jax

i mean it depends on where you're drifting it and if it has to pass tech. also if you've never worked on a car before don't start with an engine swap.

I've worked with cars before hand and are always working with them. Lets just say for the start of my learning I'll be drifting in 'Mexico' Wink other than that passing tech I can do. Just really need the basis on if its worth and everything. Thanks!

to be honest you'd be better off with a 240 than a 180 if you want decent power to start with. you can still get decent numbers from bolt on parts and supercharging / turbocharging on a KA. i wouldn't worry about big horsepower if you're just learning though. also plan to run it into a wall or two.

I'll definitely take that into account when looking for shells or running vehicles. 240's are very expensive in the region I am in, so it's put it towards the side as it may be out of my price range. Thanks for the advice!
