Religion do we need it anymore? - Flashdrive - 04-10-2013 ![]() This question has always pondered at my thoughts, and being an Atheist I feel I get a more clearer and unbiased look at this seeing all religions as equal in their goals, and although yes you may say me being atheist also leads me to a bias to say they're not needed, but i'll say my logic anyway. Back in the days of man without chemistry, physics, and biology being very advanced or even there at all we needed something to explain the unknown to make us feel comfortable within our brains. So having this problem we manifest something to answer those though questions like "Why are we here, what is beyond the sky, what is the sun, what is the moon, what keeps us on the Earth, what are stars" and millions of other questions. Now of course we still ask some of these today, but most have been answered by science. Now back in these days obviously they never had ways to figure it out so it was easier just to say that some God, or God(s) did it and call it a day. Now that we're in modern times, and we have all of these advancements and knowledge of the body, and brain we should all start to see a bigger picture here: Why do we need a God(s) to exist? Do we need it to keep people motivated to live even though their life is horrible hoping some type of after life awaits them? Do we need it to keep people to not be evil, and hateful because they fear a place named Hell? Are these really good reasons to keep God around not in my mind at all, and many atheist make it through life without believing in some mystical begin. I just want your logical, and well thought out opinions on this not some short post like "I believe in God because who else would of created the universe" because one can just say "than who created your God" keep the predictable banter away from this thread I want a good discussion not a flame war. Religion do we need it anymore? - Feat - 04-10-2013 I honestly thing we do need a 'God' in our lives. Without some type of deity to keep us comforted lots of people would go crazy if something bad happened to them. This is one of my main reasons. Another reason would be because of the fact that without a 'God', there go a couple of historical relics gone, dismissed as nothing more then bull(the bible is probably the main thing along with the other religous books I keep forgetting). And finally because 'God' is our subconscious in a sense. We made him up to comfort us and to help us do right from wrong, yet our subconscious does this already. 'God' is just another way to justify something right or wrong we've done. Do you honestly think having something to just mask the problem is a healthy thing to do? No, not one bit. But, it helps some people cope. RE: Religion do we need it anymore? - Flashdrive - 04-10-2013 (04-10-2013, 02:47 AM)Feat Wrote: No, not one bit. But, it helps some people cope. Also in your post you said something about it would leave lots of historical relics to not be as appreciated or something along those lines. I'm not saying ban religion, and label it as wrong and throw out all the facts. I'm just simply saying is their a need for us to even have it anymore given what we know already? You'd be surprised how much shit that would be banned when it comes to religion if it wasn't needed. Some people/dictators or whatever would ban it instantly. And some people would probably just ban it in general because they've given up. Granted it would not be respected anymore, but why respect something that only helped humanity temporarily and is now most likely holding it back? Respect it because it helped us get that far, we would not have had any reason to investigate God if it wasn't for religion. Religion do we need it anymore? - Vitani - 04-10-2013 I was always told 'Shit in one hand, and pray, and see what fills quicker' or some shit like that.. I normally hear some example like. "You both get sick with some curable illness but only known to be done with medicine pick one Pray, or get help from a doctor" |
