Are Boxer engines as good as advertised? - Inori - 01-03-2017

I've read on a couple websites that Boxer/Flat/Contra/whatever-you-want-to-call-them engines give the car a lower center of gravity and reduce vibrations, yielding better handling and a smoother ride. This seems plausible, but I feel like the truth is being stretched a little. Can any auto nerds (maybe @phyrrus9 or @roger_smith?) back this up?
