Windows 10 can't access BIOS - loading... - 01-02-2017
I've been attempting to live boot kali on my laptop. I've tried both USB and a disc, however my BIOS refuses to appear. I've set my settings to boot from USB then disc then HDD, however it still boots from my HDD first.
I've disabled fast boot and tried pressing every F1-12 key but none of them work. I remember when I first got the laptop, I was able to enter the BIOS a few times but I haven't messed with it since then and now i'm not able to get in.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L-55 with a UEFI BIOS

Try the first option if you're already positive you're timing and pressing the correct buttons on startup and it's not working.
Alternatively, try this http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02657339.pdf. Page 62 on removing the RTC battery. Directions may differ depending on your hardware.

Getting USB images to boot from windows 8+ requires some level of cooperation from the UEFI bios, particularly with secureboot enabled. Beware crappy UEFI implementations, as they can really be a headache. Some distros have a UEFI shim/microsoft signature and these sometimes allow linux to be installed with UEFI enabled (rather than the CSM/legacy mode), which will allow you to multiboot windows and linux if you like. I recently installed Ubuntu on a Toshiba 3-series laptop by:
1. using a UEFI editor in windows to add boot entry for USB device (live USB for 16.04LTS)
2. booting USB and running Ubuntu installer
3. examine uefi configuration carefully with efivars or a similar linux tool before hard reboot
If #3 is not carefully observed you will brick the unit. The machine could be recovered but would require a reflash of the BIOS at worst and removal of the CMOS/RTC battery at best. Good luck!

I was finally able to access my BIOS, however that did no good at all so I've given up on this and decided to just buy a new, cheaper laptop with Kali pre-installed. Thanks for the help though everyone. Much appreciated
