U.S. Minimum Wage Increase - Theós - 10-12-2016

So I've heard all this politcal stuff about people wanting a higher minimum wage across the United States. $15 an hour to be exact. I'm a man of common sense, so let's break down why this is a bad idea.

Increasing the wage to $15 would throw the economy off balance. Wages vary from state to state. New York is completely different from Texas in terms of mortgage, and pay rates. $1000/monthly mortgage in Texas gets you a nice home, with acreage. In New York, you get a 2 bedroom apartment, barely anything. Okay, so why did I give you that piece of info? Because if minimum wage is $15/hr in Texas, more people would be able to afford decent homes, and that would increase property value and make homes way more expensive than they already are. The cost of living would drive up for many states.

Another reason increasing the minimum wage is bad is because small businesses will suffer as well. Many small businesses in many states can't afford to pay $15/hr. Like Texas, where I live.

Here's another problem. What if business paid employess based on tiers. For example let's say we have Weenie (minimum wage), Hotdog (median wage), and Bratwurst in that order. Employees working with weenies get paid $7.50/hr, employees working with hotdogs get paid $15/hr, and employees working with bratwurst get paid $30/hr. If minimum wage gets pushed to $15/hr, businesses would have to adjust the other employee wages, and the business will lose money.

Another problem is the noticeable increased price of services and products. Let's say yoy own a business and sell penises for $5 a pop and you pay someone minimum wage $2/hr to sell them. You profit $3 from every sale. If minimum wage is increased from $2 to $10, then you'd have sell your penises for $13 a pop to keep your $3 profit stream.

There's so much more but I'm tires of typing, and If I make no sense I'm sorry. I'm just super bored lol.

Does the US have a system where once you hit the minimum working age, your pay goes up every year until you hit 21? Here in Australia it's like that, the minimum wage I believe is something like $12 (Roughly $9.10USD) and goes up by a percentage every year until you hit 21. If you're talking about younger people earning $15 at the beginning, that'd be such a massive increase and people would certainly become a lot wealthier quicker so prices everywhere would just increase. I don't know economics well myself, but that's how I see it playing out at least.

What is the current minimum wage? I was recently given a pay rise since the minimum wage increased from £3.30 an hour (I think) to £4. I was originally on £4.50 but moved up to £5.50. But I do agree. $15 is a hell of a lot of money for say a 16 year old. That's £12 here.

Still more than what I get paid and I'm paid £1.50 more than the minimum wage haha. Hell of a big increase though.

Depends on age. I believe it's around £7 when you hit 18 or 21 - can't remember.

Why everyone but Australia seem like they have such low pay, and here I am wanting to move out of Australia. Every fact sheet I find when Googling shows that we get at least $17(I believe this is once you hit 18). I tried looking up Juniors but the government website is broken and just sits there loading.

Fuck that, what determines getting paid more or less? If a 15 year old and 21 year old work at the same place, they're getting the exact same amount?
