I meant I've never seen someone control energy. I guess those people who talk to ghost/ the dead control energy though. Or something similar.

You can not see someone control energy - the only way you could in theory is by seeing the results from their magickal workings. :^)

I used to have a friend that was wayyyy into this sort of stuff, in the end he stopped because he wasn't worrying about his safety because some stuff idk and it was getting out of hand

You have to be very mature to successfully practice any occult branch safely. Shielding techniques are critical, and you must keep yourself psychologically in check or else it can drive you fucking mad.
