What is it that makes you work, strive towards something? A fairly simple question, and one that people (especially those starting a product like a forum) seem to forget in the long run. So what makes you do your best and work towards something? For me personally it is that something, a goal or reward for my hard work. Now that make me sounds rather shallow, but that is why I stated two things instead of just one. In work relations, its mostly money or some other reward that motivates me. However in a hobby or such, its the goal that motivates me. A personal goal.
