What.cd is gone - Wildfire - 11-18-2016
After 9 years, What.cd closed its doors following a raid by French authorities (Gendarmerie (C3N)) on datacenters operated by OVH and FREE.

Hopefully they come back though. Their main site backend, with the failover IPs of 64.69.89.40 and 64.69.89.45, is very well hidden and shouldn't be discovered by any US authorities lurking in New York (hopefully).
They say the data is destroyed, but you never know...

This really sucks. What.CD had the best music database out of literally any other service I have tried (Paid, illegal or otherwise). It's recommendations were on point (Way better than anything Spotify had to offer). I discovered a metric fuckton of music I wouldn't have otherwise.
I also recently got signed up and into it. Been a short run but it was pretty great. Maybe something will take it's place. Probably won't be as good, though.

I'm sure someone said the same thing about OiNK when it shut the doors. What.CD was born shortly after that... There will always be a successor as long as humans exist. Patience is really the only factor.

Seem's like the popular seedbox service FeralHosting had their front-end servers taken down as well as of recent, due to the raid at OVH in France at the same time as What.CD went down.. how stupid can one be to have their sites in a country where taking the sites down is relatively easy?

Maybe If the police generated as much effort In stopping the real offenders of crime (murderers, terrorists and rapists) as what they do with file sharing sites, we'd live In a better and safer society.
When are they going to actually realize that the moment one site Is taken down, another 5 sites (mirrors , alternatives or otherwise), begin to surface shortly after. Not good that after so many years, What.cd has come to an end.
