Newest noob in programming - eddo - 11-03-2016

Hi! I'm Jean and I'm 17. Computer science has always been an interest of mine. And recently, I've been wanting to learn about hacking and whatnot, so I decided to join a forum. I'm not really accustomed to the idea of forums, so advice, comments, and suggestions  are all welcome! Thanks!

Hi there Jean, welcome aboard to our community.

The term "hacking" Is quite broad, hence what's my forte may no be suited to you. Perhaps If you tell us a little bit about what you do (or want to) know, we can then be of assistance and try and guide you In the right direction.
Hope you're having a most pleasant stay, enjoy.

Welcome to sinister.li! I'm sure there will be some topics you like. There are a lot of hacking tutorials. As Mothered stated above, hacking is a pretty broad term.

You could see Social Engineering as hacking as well, or cracking accounts maybe too. Anyway, I'm sure you'll find something you like.
You can read the rules HERE.

If you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

Hi Jean, if you want to get into computer science and especially hacking there are a couple of things you need to take into account. First off, i don't think it's a good idea to use your real name anywhere on the internet. You should look into this thing people that are in "the scene" colloquially call Operational Security. Safety first, of course.

Secondly, as has been mentioned in the thread, you might want to look into where your interests lay. Is it web application security? Do you want to know how websites work and how they break, and more over, how that can be exploited? Or are you more interested in things on the hardware level, think of hardware keyloggers, Lan Turtle, that sort of thing. Perhaps you would like to know how malware works. What about cryptography? In short, you need to figure out what you would like to get out of learning to hack.

To conclude, whether you want to do web app penetration testing or malware analysis it's a good idea to acquaint yourself with the underlying technologies that are involved. For web app you should learn programming languages like HTML, Javascript, MySQL, PHP and such. Finding out how servers work should also be on your to do list. With regards to malware, you might want to familiarize yourself with Assembly, debuggers, low level languages in general and how different operating systems work on a deep, intimate level. Anyway, pick your poison, good luck and above all; have fun.
